We look closely for just that “right” person to work at Elizabeth B. Sherman Childcare and Preschool. We look for people who love children, demonstrate consideration and care for the needs of others, and will try their hardest to make everything go well. We look for the attitutde that a person will do anything that needs to be done. You will see the supervisors, teachers, and even the director in the classrooms, on the playground, doing laundry, and helping a teacher. If a child cries or is having a difficult day, someone will come to help. This makes a world of difference and is why employees tend to stay. Our children are loved as we watch them grow. It is difficult to let them go as it becomes time to move to kindergarten.
Our staff members come from a variety of backgrounds. Education is emphasized. We look for employees who have post-secondary schooling. Many are in the pursuit of a degree or credential, or already have a degree. Upon hiring each employee much complete an oritentation process that includes training requirements specific to early childhood development. In addition, CPR/FirstAid and MAT trained personnel are on site.
Each staff member must pass a criminal history background check and a search of the Virginia Department of Social Services Child Protective Central Registry. Each staff member much be certified by a practicing physician to be free from any disability that would prevent caring for children.
